Looking Back

Doug Robinson & Josh Madsen

It was a pretty great week back here in Salt Lake City, UT. Rad. Stoked. Killer..._______ fill in the blank with any appropriate title for an exceptional experience.  That's how I like to keep things when possible, although I'm sure this is also most people's plan as we all venture through this unpredictable adventure we call life. I spent the majority of the week focusing my efforts on the finishing touches for my movie trailer for Hippies.Punx.&Misfits, trying to tighten things up with the music and add some fun fillers and new techniques that I've been working on. I really enjoy the fact that my work evolves with me on a truly personal level and I feel that it generally represents where I'm at as a person. The great part about art is that it is never perfect and never will be. Often times I think the reason that it can be so difficult to put something you have created in front of others is the fact that it instantly shows your inabilities and flaws. Embracing your own weakness can be your demise or your greatest ally to reaching personal satisfaction. I know I usually hope for the latter choice.

Trailers & Tattoos

The seasons are shifting.  June has arrived and that means that summer is here.  After a long winter and a spring full of lingering storm days and relatively cold weather, I'm definitely looking forward to warmer days.  It is the perfect change for me when I'm still working on snow related projects during the summer months.  In my office I have a sense of winter, mtns, and skiing as I'm editing video and writing, so it is nice that I can still step outside at any given time and remind myself of what the current time of year really is.

Cranking It Out

I finally managed to settle back into Salt Lake City after being on the road for the better part of eight months.  Of course it always feels good to be in a familiar place, but it can have it's moments of difficulty as well for the simple fact that for so long my sense of "familiar" was seeing somewhere new every couple of days.  The experience of traveling so extensively this year has been incredible and extremely valuable to me on both a personal and a business level, which often times are so beautifully intertwined that they are hard to distinguish from one another.  As I've spent the last few weeks preparing all of the footage to begin editing "Hippies, Punx, & Misfits" it is very apparent to me that this is the right project for me right now for various reasons.  The single most important one being that I was able to experience so many different types of subcultures within the telemark community in such a short period of time.  There are so many charismatic and passionate people in our little ski world...these are the people that make it go around.
